Goal Driven Budget

A goal driven budget assist in the attainment of the shared vision of the school district for every campus. The goal driven budget is collaboratively developed between the board of trustees, the district site base committee, and campus site base committee. The board of trustees sets the goals and the two committees develop the plans from the board’s goals. The plans should reflect the boards goals and should be a “version of the vision”.
Our district plan is the result of a goal driven budget that includes the board’s goals and addresses them. Goals such a comprehensive needs assessment that identifies strengths and weaknesses in our academic programs are addressed throughout the district plan. As a result, the district and campus site base committees have addressed past weaknesses and have improved our districts accountability ratings to one of the best in the area and state. Technology use is also a board goal that is addressed. The board recognizes that our students live in a technological age and have given the district goals to address this issue. As a result, our district is one of the most connected districts in the area and an ongoing dialogue is going on about improving technology every year. Another goal addressed that has been very important for the district is our facilities. The board gave the Superintendent a goal of improving our facilities on the inside and outside. As a result, our maintenance department and contracted vendors have done remarkable helping our district become more aesthetically pleasing to the eye with new landscaping on the outside, and replacing many materials on the inside. The air conditioning systems have also been overhauled as  a result of this board goal.
As I reflect on the whole process, I realize what a good process that it is. Including all stakeholders ideas in board goals and decision making teams helps the district address needs and provides various opinions that normally would not be involved in some decisions. In the “big picture”, connections between these various stakeholders will help the district prosper and maintain good working relationships within the school community.
